When do you offer the mountain bike adventures?

Can I book a large group for this tour?

  • Yes. Private group tours and/or tours for larger groups can be arranged by calling us at: (218) 464-6337.

Will I get a confirmation email after I purchase my tour ticket(s)?

  • Yes! You should receive a confirmation email. Sometimes, this email gets routed to your spam folder so check there if you don’t see it.
  • The most important thing to bring with you is your driver’s license or some form of ID. We’ve got your name on our roster and we’ll check you in when you arrive.

Where do we meet The Duluth Experience to start the tour?

  • The Duluth Traverse Mountain Bike Adventure and the Winter Fat Tire Bike Adventure both begin and end at Fitger’s Complex in Downtown Duluth. Here’s a link to the Google Map. Look for The Duluth Experience guide out front of the Fitger’s Inn on Superior Street (there is a green awning in front of the entrance). Look for the green awning and you’ll see our adventure van and bike trailer out front. Here is a photo of the pickup location:

Where should I park?

  • We recommend that you use the large parking ramp directly behind the Pickwick Restaurant. Here are the directions if you’re approaching from Interstate 35:
    1. Exit at the Lake Avenue exit (exit 256B)
    2. Go left onto Lake Avenue
    3. Merge into the right lane
    4. At the first set of lights, turn right onto E. Superior Street
    5. Follow E. Superior Street 4 blocks
    6. Just past 4th Avenue E, take the next right (before the Pickwick Restaurant)
    7. Follow road straight into parking ramp
    8. Park the car on the top level of the ramp (if there are open spaces)
  • Now, from the parking ramp to the meeting location in front of the Fitger’s Complex:
    1. Starting at the top level of the ramp
    2. Look for the red bridge by the Pickwick Restaurant
    3. Cross the red bridge
    4. Walk to the corner of the Pickwick Restaurant
    5. Turn right
    6. Follow the sidewalk towards the Fitger’s Building
    7. Hang out outside the Fitger’s Building under the green awning
    8. Watch for our guide to pull up in a silver van with a white trailer
  • Here is a map to use as a reference:

How long is this tour?

  • All of our daytime Mountain Bike and Fat Tire Bike Adventures are approximately 3 hours long.
  • Our Night Rides are 4 hours long because we spend a bit of time at a local brewery after the ride.

Are there age requirements?

  • Yes. The minimum age requirement is 13 years of age with a parent or guardian. Just remember that mountain biking can be strenuous, especially on youngsters but our guides will accommodate as best we can to make your experience more enjoyable.
  • You’ll need to be a minimum of 21 years of age (and have a valid photo ID) if you’re joining us for a Night Ride and plan to sip a beer or two. Folks under 21 can join the Night Ride but will not be able to enjoy a post-ride brew (but there is root beer).

What if I have never biked before?

  • This tour is designed for fit guests looking for exercise and fun. We require that you know how to ride a bike. Prior mountain biking experience is helpful and you should be aware that mountain biking can be a challenging activity… it’s part of the fun!
  • That said, our mountain bike tours are designed for all skill levels so no mountain biking experience is required to participate. We begin every adventure by providing step-by-step instructions on biking technique and safety tips to ensure that you have the best possible experience on the trail.
  • Give us a call if you’re questioning your ability to join the tour and we’ll work with you to determine the trip that’s best for your skill level.

What should I wear?

  • Basic fitness clothing is perfect. In the summer, shorts and a t-shirt should be fine but it never hurts to bring a sweatshirt or fleece when recreating along Lake Superior’s North Shore. *For more info on winter rides, please visit our Winter Adventure FAQ.
  • We always recommend that you dress for the weather. If a light rain is in the forecast, bring a rain jacket and a few layers to keep you warm and dry.
  • Most tours will be bright and sunny, but weather along the North Shore is generally cool. Plan on dressing in layers that you can take off or put on as the weather changes.
  • We recommend hiking or running shoes (no flip flops please) and clothing that can get dirty and/or wet. Shorts and a t-shirt are preferred but it never hurts to bring a sweatshirt or fleece when recreating along Lake Superior’s North Shore.
  • Sunglasses and sunscreen will also protect you from the sun.

What should I bring?

  • The Duluth Experience wants to make each tour as comfortable and easy as possible. We will provide the bicycles and helmets. We will also provide water and snacks. Below is a list of recommended items that you should bring:
    • Sunscreen
    • Sunglasses
    • Appropriate clothing and footwear (i.e., closed toed athletic shoes and athletic-style clothing)
    • Any medications that may be needed (e.g., epi-pen, insulin, inhaler, etc.)
    • Camera
    • Phone
    • Water bottle
    • Small backpack

What is provided by The Duluth Experience?

  • We will provide everything you will need to have a fantastic experience. All of our Mountain Bike & Fat Tire Bike Adventures include: bikes and helmets, snacks, extra water, and an experienced and knowledgeable guide.
  • We pride ourselves on having the highest quality rental bikes in the biz. Our summer adventures include a Giant Anthem 3 full-suspension mountain bike:

  • This winter’s fat tire bike selection will be updated shortly

Is food included with the adventure?

  • Based on the timing for this adventure, we will not provide lunch. We recommend that you eat before or after the tour. We will have complementary snacks to munch on during the tour and we’ll have extra water to fill up your bottles.

Do we get to drink beer on the mountain bike tour?

  • We do not allow alcoholic beverages during the ride and we highly recommend that you don’t drink before the ride. We have a priority to keep you safe on our tours and alcohol does not mix well with cycling.
  • The Night Rides end with about an hour visit to a local brewery where you can celebrate by purchasing a locally made brew. Cheers!
  • We leave the drinking for after the tour and encourage you to celebrate your ride with Brewery Tours afterwards!

Are there group rates for group bookings?

  • Yes! If you book 7 or more tickets on a tour you are eligible to receive our group rate. Send us an email or give us a call at: (218) 464-6337 for more details.

Would The Duluth Experience ever cancel the trip?

  • Possibly. If unsafe weather conditions arise, The Duluth Experience reserves the right to cancel a trip to protect your safety and the safety of our crew. Your ticket will be refunded or we can help get you booked on an alternate tour – whichever you prefer.
  • We need a minimum of 2 attendees to run the tour. If this threshold is not met, The Duluth Experience may have to cancel the trip and you will be refunded or booked on an alternate tour.

What is the policy if I have to cancel my ticket?

  • You will receive a full refund if your tickets are cancelled more than 72 hours ahead if time. There is a 50% refund if cancelled between 72 and 24 hours. There is no refund if you cancel with less than 24 hours before a tour.

Do you accept walk-on customers?

Do you have any testimonials from past guests?
