Global Fat Bike Day in Duluth
Join the Worldwide Celebration
By Dave Grandmaison – Co-Founder & CEO
We’re coming up on one of my favorite celebrations of the year – Global Fat Bike Day. Never heard of it? Well, Global Fat Bike Day is a worldwide celebration that started in 2012 when a couple of riders from the United Kingdom – Si Matthews and Ritchie Salt – decided to organize a ride with their friends. From there, the event grew to the point where folks around the globe – from Great Britain to Australia to (you guessed it) Duluth – are taking the celebration to new heights.
In an interview posted on fat-bike.com, Matthews explains “Yes, it’s just a silly bike ride on very silly bikes, but to see people around the world from so many different backgrounds enjoying something so simple once a year has to be a beautiful, positive thing.”
Beautiful? I agree. Silly? Well… you be the judge. I can tell you this… winter fat tire biking is one of my favorite ways to explore the Duluth Traverse. Don’t take my word for it though, get out and experience it for yourself!
Here are a couple of great ways to celebrate Global Fat Bike Day in Duluth this Saturday.
