Position: Brewery Tour Guide
Base Salary: $10/hour (plus tips)
Weekly Commitment: 10-20 hours/week (approx.)
Work Schedule: Seasonal variation with Thursday, Friday, and Saturday shifts available. Potential for year-round, part-time employment. There may also be opportunity for special event assignments (e.g., private tours, beer festivals, outreach, etc.).
Description: As a Brewery Tour Guide, you are an ambassador for our local craft beer scene. Your primary role involves delivering engaging tours that educate and entertain guests while providing effective customer service to guests and partners. As a member of the hospitality industry, we pride ourselves on crafting fun and memorable experiences for folks who have chosen to spend their time with us. We want them to have the best possible experience and walk away excited to tell their friends all about it. This position involves substantial public and partner interaction and requires courtesy, compassion, effective communication, attention to detail, and strict embodiment of our Core Values.
Job Duties:

  • Demonstrate and maintain knowledge of the brewing process
  • Arrive on time and ready to begin tour preparation
  • Assist driver with pre-trip vehicle inspection
  • Maintain cleanliness of vehicle
  • Ensure adequate tour supplies are on board the bus/van prior to each tour
  • Be courteous and professional when greeting guests; answer any initial questions
  • Confer with driver on logistics and coordination of tour
  • Deliver brewery and brewing content to group in a fun and engaging manner
  • Ensure accuracy of brewery tour content
  • Lead guests to destination points such as brewery and dinner locations
  • Be courteous and helpful to brewery & restaurant staff
  • Monitor time and stay on tour schedule
  • Complete required paperwork during and after each tour
  • Clean bus/van at the end of the tour

Basic Requirements:

  • Great personality, enthusiasm, and storytelling ability
  • Knowledge and/or experience with the brewing process
  • Ability to pass the Cicerone Level 1 – Certified Beer Server Exam
  • Experience leading groups of people and/or guiding tours
  • Public speaking experience
  • Ability to obtain a MN DOT Driver Certification Card

Position: City Tour Guide

  • Working knowledge of Duluth history

Position: Kayak Adventure Guide
Base Salary: $10/hour (plus tips)
Weekly Commitment: 20 hours/week (approx.)
Work Schedule: Seasonal hire during the months of June through October. Summer shifts daily. There may also be opportunities for special event bookings and bookings past the month of September.
Description: As a Kayak Adventure Guide, you are a trip leader and an educator. Your primary role involves delivering safe, engaging tours that educate and entertain guests while providing effective customer service to guests and partners. As a member of the hospitality industry, we pride ourselves on crafting fun and memorable experiences for folks who have chosen to spend their time with us. We want them to have the best possible experience and walk away excited to tell their friends all about it.   • Transport guests in a 15-passenger van
  • Operate vehicles and trailer
  • Conduct pre-trip vehicle inspection

  • Ensure adequate tour gear and supplies are on board the bus/van prior to each tour
  • Be courteous and professional when greeting guests; answer any initial questions
  • Confer with Team Leader regarding logistics and coordination of tour
  • Deliver welcome presentation and Duluth-related content to group in a fun and engaging manner
  • Load/unload gear and supplies
  • Ensure accuracy of tour content
  • Lead guests in kayak and paddle orientation, safety and rescue, basic stroke mechanics, and group formation
  • Lead guests to destination points such as Park Point, St. Louis River Estuary, Duluth Harbor, and the William A. Irvin
  • Provide content on Duluth cultural and natural history, geology, Lake Superior facts, flora and fauna information to guests when appropriate
  • Be courteous and helpful to partner staff
  • Monitor time and stay on tour schedule
  • Complete required paperwork during and after each tour
  • Clean bus/van and trailer at the end of the tour

Basic Requirements:

  • Experience with kayaking basics (i.e., safety and rescue, basic stroke mechanics, and group formation)
  • Trailering and 15-passenger van experience recommended
  • Experience leading tours and/or kayaking trips
  • ACA kayaking certifications recommended but not required
  • Current Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or Wilderness First Aid (WFA) certification required
  • MN DOT Driver Certification Card
  • Knowledge of Duluth cultural and natural history, current events and Lake Superior content recommended

  • Provide content on Duluth cultural and natural history, geology, Lake Superior facts, flora and fauna information to guests when appropriate
  • Be courteous and helpful to partner staff
  • Monitor time and stay on tour schedule
  • Complete required paperwork during and after each tour
  • Clean bus/van and trailer at the end of the tour

Basic Requirements:

  • Experienced in cycling basics (i.e., trail and road riding techniques and basic bike repair)
  • Experience leading tours and/or bicycle trips
