Duluth Traverse Press Release

The Duluth Traverse Mountain Bike Shuttle Launches in Duluth

This September, mountain bikers tackling longer rides on The Duluth Traverse can hop aboard a new shuttle service with pickup and drop-off sites along the entire length of Duluth’s IMBA Gold Level trail system.

Details regarding the shuttle can be accessed on The Duluth Traverse Shuttle landing page.

“The Duluth Traverse Shuttle is a great way to encourage folks to enjoy longer rides and experience more of Duluth’s incredible trail system”, said Dave Grandmaison, Co-Founder and Bike Guide at The Duluth Experience. “Our goal is to take care of the logistics and allow the riders to focus on their ride. In this case, the ride is the entire length of The Duluth Traverse – a great challenge and a spectacular adventure”.

Starting September 22nd, the Saturday-only service will pickup riders at Duluth’s Lester Park at 8:00am and provide drop-offs at Twin Ponds, Spirit Mountain’s Grand Avenue Chalet, and – for the full Traverse – Chamber’s Grove. The shuttle leaves Chamber’s Grove at 9:30am and returns to Lester Park for folks riding the opposite direction.

“We are starting out with a set schedule on Saturday mornings through the end of the fall riding season”, said Grandmaison. “If things go well, I imagine we will offer the DT Shuttle this winter as well.”

The growing popularity of mountain biking among local Duluthians is no surprise. Efforts by the Cyclists of Gitchee Gumee Shores (COGGS) – a volunteer mountain bike club – along with The City of Duluth, Minnesota Land Trust, and private businesses who share a passion for cycling have helped build the infrastructure resulting in a truly world-class trail system that spans the length of Duluth from Lester Park to Chamber’s Grove.

“Fall is when riders love to get out and test the legs that they have been building all season” , explains Hansi Johnson, Director of Recreational Lands at The Minnesota Land Trust. “Ripping the Duluth Traverse in a single push is a truly challenging undertaking for even the most fit riders, but it’s an iconic one. Being able to ride the DT with support from The Duluth Experience takes the logistics out of out the challenge and makes the effort an event you will look forward to every Autumn.”

The Duluth Experience launches the new Duluth Traverse Shuttle on Saturday, September 22nd and will offer Saturday morning shuttles through the end of November (weather permitting). Riders must register ahead of time to reserve their spot in the shuttle and are expected to be self sufficient in navigating the trails and carrying all necessary food, water, and supplies. Individual pricing starts $25/rider with group rates for 5 or more riders.
