Kayak Tour on Lake Superior

When do you offer the kayak adventures?

What should I wear for the kayak adventure?

  • Plan for the weather. If a light rain is in the forecast, bring rain gear and other items to keep you warm and dry.
  • Most tours will be bright and sunny, and since kayaking is a great workout, plan on dressing light and packing a warm layer in case you need it. Wind-breakers are a great idea.
  • We’ll provide dry bags for each guest so you can stow any additional layers and gear that you bring along for the adventure.
  • There is the possibility of getting wet on a tour. We recommend shoes (no flip flops please) and clothing that can get wet – such as a swimsuit or quick-dry clothing.
  • A hat and sunglasses will protect you from the sun and are highly recommended.

What do you recommend I bring for the Kayak Adventure?

  • The Duluth Experience wants to make your tour as comfortable and easy as possible and while we provide all the specialized gear for your kayaking adventure, we do recommend that you bring the following personal items:
    • Sunscreen
    • Sunglasses
    • Hat
    • Appropriate clothing and footwear (i.e., closed toed shoes, quick dry clothing, avoid cotton and jeans)
    • Any medications that may be needed (e.g., epi-pen, insulin, inhaler, etc.)
    • Camera
    • Phone
    • Water bottle

Do you have any testimonials from past guests?

  • Why yes, we encourage our guests to provide reviews on Facebook, Trip Advisor, and Yelp. Check out our Trip Advisor Page to see what folks are saying about their Duluth Experience.

Will I get a confirmation email after I purchase my ticket(s)?

  • Yes! You should receive a confirmation email. Sometimes this email gets routed to your spam folder so check there if you don’t see it.
  • The most important thing to bring with you is your driver’s license or some form of ID. We’ve got your name on our roster and we’ll check you in when you arrive.

Where do we meet The Duluth Experience to start the adventure?

  • All of the kayak adventures begin and end in front of the Fitger’s Complex on Superior Street (map link: Fitger’s Complex, 600 E. Superior Street, Duluth, MN 55802). We do our best to pull up right in front of the Fitger’s Inn under the green awning. Look for the silver Duluth Experience van out front or, in case of bad weather, wait inside the complex near the doors and our guides will come and find you.

Do you have 2-person tandem kayaks?

  • Yes! We have 2-person tandem kayaks available upon request. A tandem kayak would be perfect if you have children less that 13 years of age or who may not be able to paddle their own kayak. Please note that tandem kayaks must be arranged ahead of time to ensure their availability for your tour.
  • We do not charge extra for the tandem boats! Pricing for our kayak tours is per person regardless of whether or not you paddle a solo or tandem kayak.

Where does the kayak tour go?

  • Depending on the day, there are multiple tours offered. Head on over to our Duluth Kayak Tour Page for more details on each kayak tour option.

What if I have never kayaked before?

  • That’s totally ok!!! Our kayaks are easy to use and incredibly stable. Our experienced guides will give you step-by-step instructions on how to paddle and what to do. You will quickly find why kayaking is our favorite way to experience Lake Superior.

Do we get to drink beer during the kayak tour?

  • We do not allow alcoholic beverages on the tour. We have a priority to keep you safe on our tours and alcohol can take away from the paddling experience. Instead, save the drinking for after the tour. We’ll be dropping you off back in Downtown Duluth and there are lots of great options for a celebration beer after your tour.
  • Better yet… hit the town after kayaking with one of our Brewery Tours and celebrate in style!

What is the policy if I have to cancel my ticket?

  • You will receive a full refund if your tickets are cancelled more than 72 hours ahead if time. There is a 50% refund if cancelled bewteen 72 and 24 hours. There is no refund if you cancel with less than 24 hours before a tour.
