Step into Duluth’s vibrant craft scene and meet the roasters, artisans, restauranteurs, and brewers breathing fresh energy into the ongoing legacy of Duluth’s HART District. This behind-the-scenes experience is a guided walking tour through the history and future of the Historic Arts & Theater (HART) District – a nexus for performing, visual, and culinary arts. You’ll sip locally brewed coffee and learn the philosophy driving Duluth’s favorite micro-roastery, delve into the stories behind Duluth’s dynamic art community while sampling appetizers at an art-inspired cafe, sneak a peek at the newly restored NorShore Theatre, and explore the excitement buzzing around the local craft beer scene.

End Time Ending at Blacklist Artisan Ales at approximately 5:00PM (with optional guided walk back to Canal Park afterwards)
All-Inclusive > Coffee sample, appetizer sample, craft beer sample, and exclusive behind-the-scenes guided tours at each location

Minimum Age > 13 years of age or older – children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult/guardian and ID is required for beer samples at Blacklist Artisan Ales

The HART of Duluth Walking Tour begins in Canal Park and follows a leisurely route that showcases the history and current development in historic downtown Duluth. You’ll learn about the HART District – what that name means and where it came from – and how it was formed. Then you’ll experience exclusive, behind-the-scenes tours where you’ll meet local artisans who are shaping the HART District’s current culture and future plans. Your first stop is Duluth Coffee Company – a micro-roastery – where single-origin coffee beans are roasted to order with insightful roasting techniques that highlight the nuances its origin, varietal, and processing technique. Your second stop is Zeitgeist Arts Cafe where you’ll sample a locally made appetizer while exploring the importance of community cultivation and local artistry with Zeitgeist community builders. You’ll end the tour with a stop at Blacklist Artisan Ales where you’ll sample their Belgian-inspired brew and experience the excitement buzzing around Duluth’s craft beer scene.

Duluth Coffee Company is committed to creating quality coffee using fresh beans, proper roasting techniques and a sense of place. Green coffee beans are hand selected based on understanding of the source farm, processing methods and shipping. Each coffee is roasted to order with insightful roasting techniques that highlight the nuances of the coffee’s origin and varietal characteristics. The Duluth Playhouse was founded in 1914 and is one of the nation’s oldest community theatres. Their team produces a year-round season packed with dramas and musicals of all sizes. With the recently completed $30-million NorShor Theatre restoration, the Duluth Playhouse has found a new home and restored a legacy of art and entertainment to Duluth’s Historic Arts & Theatre District. Get ready because our walking tour goes behind the scenes to explore the NorShor.

The Blacklist Brewing team describes themselves as a “gypsy brewing, nomadic, operation” with a truly artisan approach to creating fine concoctions of water, malt, hops, and yeast. Head brewer Brian Schanzenbach creates flavorful ales in small batches, using unique recipes and bold techniques… it’s a new take on Belgian-style beer with a Northland flair. The Team at Blacklist is excited to share their story over a Belgian-inspired beer at their beautiful taproom in Duluth’s Historic Arts & Theater District.
