Ursa Minor Brewing Company Open in Lincoln Park
Congratulations To The Ursa Minor Team
Ben, Mark, and Andrew have been working tirelessly for months with a single goal – build a brewery in Lincoln Park… and make beer. This past week, the Ursa Minor Team opened their doors to celebrate their grand opening with a packed house of supporters, friends and curious beer lovers from around the Twin Ports.
Head of Brewing Operations and Co-Founder, Mark Hugus, has been brewing like crazy over the past few weeks in preparation for their big opening. And after a few tastings, I can tell you – in no uncertain terms – Ben has delivered an impressive opening lineup of brews. Opening night’s selection included: Ben’s Breakfast (oatmeal stout), Mom at Noon (Belgian wit), Bare Bear (Berliner weiss), Pineapple Express (IPA), Two Bearded Blondes (blonde ale), Thistle Dew (Scottish ale), Big Bad John (double IPA), and Stubborn Duluth (pale ale).
Mark – I had the Pineapple Express, Stubborn Duluth, and I sampled a bit of the Big Bad John. And I will be back for more!
Ursa’s 5-barrel brewhouse looks calm in these pictures but I know for a fact that Mark and his brewing team are going to have their work ahead of them as demand for their beer explodes. New breweries that make good beer are must-visit destinations. That’s just a fact. And here in Duluth Beer City… I’m happy to report that Ursa Minor Brewing can hang with our craft beer crowd. Cheers fellas.
Now… let’s talk pizza. Ursa is rocking a wood-fired pizza oven where they’re handcrafting Neapolitan-style pizzas made with quality ingredients. Their pizza menu is lovely to look at and I know that it’s going to be fun to eat my way through the list. The Friday after the grand opening, I was able to stop in with a group of Swedish journalists for pizza and beer. I had the Wise Yker – a smoked-pork pizza loaded with Italian sausage, gorgonzola, parmesan and pickled onions. while my colleagues ordered the Margherita Pizza which red sauce, basil, and fresh mozzarella. They didn’t share… but neither did I!
Kris, Anni, and Nick set up a table on Ursa’s patio and hosted a fun trivia contest with all kinds of questions about the new brewery, Lincoln Park, and the North Shore Craft Beer Scene. We’re excited about our partnership with the Ursa Team on a variety of new tours that will be launching this fall – The Curling & Brews Experience, Bike & Brews Night Ride, The Brewing History Bus Tour, and The Lincoln Park Brew Tour. It’s going to be a wonderful new tour lineup in Duluth Beer City!
